The Crow And The Pitcher

Hello everyone, Welcome to WendyEnglishTimes. The Crow And The Pitcher.

The Crow And The Pitcher

A thirstycrowfound apitcherwith some water in it, but so little was there that, try as she might, she could not reach it with her beak, and it seemedas thoughshe would die of thirstwithin sight ofthe remedy. At last shehit upon acleverplan. She began dropping pebbles into the pitcher, and with each pebble the water rose a little higher until at last it reached the brim, and the knowing birdwas enabled toquench her thirst.

Necessityis the mother ofinvention.

1/ the crow and the pitcher

2/ as though

As though 和 as if 都表示好像,一般跟在感官词后面,比如feel, seem。 。。,就是it seems as though…

3/ within the sight of…

。之内,那么在视线范围内就是within the sight of…

4/ hit upon a plan

5/ be enabled to…能够

Enable表示能够,能够做某事要加在be enabled to 后面,比如,能够解渴be enabled to quench the thirst.

6/ necessity

7/ invention
